The Clyde River is a river in the country of Scotland. It is one of the longest rivers in the United Kingdom, the eighth longest in fact. It is one of the main rivers in Scotland, running through the city of Glasglow. It begins where the Daer and Potrail Reservoirs meet.
In Victorian times mills were built on the banks of the river and used the waters for power. The mills are now museums and are tourist attractions, part of the World Heritage Site. Today power stations still generate electricity here. Also along the river is the Falls of Clyde where electricity is generated and the view is awesome. The Bothwell Castle is on the shores of the river and still projects its power.
Shipbuilding is a major industry on this river although it was far more productive in the past. Today there are only two main shipyards producing owned by BAE Systems Naval Ships. They concentrate on the building of warships for navies around the globe and car ferries.
In addition to shipbuilding there are many garden industries growing due to the fertile areas surrounding the river. Tourism has grown thanks to the Glasgow Harbour project, the Glasgow Science Centre and the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. |
